Maruti Suzuki Baleno - Tech Goes Bold

After a gap of 6 years, Maruti Suzuki India has launched the facelift of its popular hatch-back Baleno which the company claims is a new generation car and not a facelift. Loaded with new tech a new engine and a new sheet metal grade altogether the Baleno looks promising, appealing, and premium in its segment while retaining the old design aesthetics altogether.

Design

On the outside the new grill has grown in size and also gets a new design in all-black elements, headlamps are now LED projectors with LED DRLS standards across all the variants. The LED daytime running lights are three separate pieces that resemble somewhat to shark fin. The front bumper is also redesigned and gets LED fog lights with larger air damps. Side profile has not changed much in design except a few touches of chrome on the window line, top of the line variant gets 16-inch precision cut alloy wheels. The rear of the car gets new brake lights protruding in the tailgate and a chrome segment for housing the rear camera.

Interiors

Inside of the car also gets a new dashboard layout with 3 step design. A silver highlight stretched along the entire length is sandwiched between a black hard plastic on the top and dark blue plastic in the bottom. The A/C vents are now placed under a 9-inch free-standing touchscreen infotainment system at the center of the dashboard. The A/C controls get a new layout with brushed aluminum toggle switches compared to the old V-shaped ones. The instrument cluster looks to be carried over from the previous generation, Maruti could have added a fully digital screen at least for the top-of-the-line model. The steering wheel is also new now with a flat bottom design equipped with tilt & telescopic functions along with steering-mounted controls.

Engine

Baleno is based on third-generation Maruti’s Heartect platform which has advanced and High Tensile Steels for better impact collision along with better stability, improved performance, and better fuel efficiency. Under the hood is a new 1.2L 4-cylinder K Series Dual Jet, Dual VVT Petrol motor called K12N engine with Start Stop (ISS) system that produces 90PS power and 113Nm Torque. The Diesel engine has been given a miss which was on offer in the previous iteration.
