German carmaker Mercedes Benz has launched the 2nd generation GLC iteration in the Indian market with some upliftment in the design elements along with the new refreshed interiors and with added tech, the new GLC is set to steal the show. X254 is the code of GLC that was launched in the USA market last year and took quite a time to land in the Indian market. GLC stands for Geländewagen Leichtbau Coupé in German an Off-Road Lightweight Coupé, where C signifies the SUV is equal to C-Class.

Design
On the outside, the car gets a new grill with a large Mercedes emblem inside chrome housing along with horizontal metal highlighting the logo with brushed aluminum touches. You get to see a chrome trapezoidal frame sitting lower down on the front bumper completing the SUV design. A newly designed LED headlamps with multifunctional DRL which are turn indicators as well as LED tail lamps.

The side profile looks smooth with no sharp crease lines. Chrome garnishing on the windows, 19-inch 5-spoke lightweight alloy wheels with 235/55 R19 tires and aluminum finished running footboard. The tail lamp looks somewhat familiar to sibling new-gen Mercedes yet it gives GLC its distinct identity. The Rear also has chrome garnish lower down the bumper and around the exhaust vents although the actual exhaust is concealed.

Interior

Firstly the cabin will make you feel like you are sitting in an elevated C-Class. Inside the car, you will get to feel the sheer luxury with the soft touch material on the dashboard which is very plush. The highlight of the cabin is the two large screens in the center is the 11.9-inch portrait-style touchscreen infotainment screen tilted at 6 degrees towards the drivers for a better view, basically, you control the whole car via this screen loaded with the new MBUX infotainment system (NTG7 interface) capable for OTA updates. A Figure print sensor for personalized profiles with payment functionality. The second screen is a 12.3-inch LED display with a customizable instrument cluster (sports, comfort, maps).
A multifunctional leather-wrapped power-adjustable steering wheel with touch controls, paddle shifters, and a gear lever underneath the steering wheel. The rear seat is also comfortable enough to fit in two passengers. Boot space is 620 liters, 70 liters more than the older one which increases up to 1250 liters with the rear seats folded. The SUV features an electric tailgate for easy access.

PowerTrain

Underneath the bonnet are two powerhouse options a GLC300, 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol with mild hybrid tech punching out an output of 258hp (+23hp from mild hybrid) & 400NM torque (+200NM) mated to a 9G-TRONIC gearbox. The second engine option is a GLC220d, 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo diesel with mild hybrid. The power output of this engine is 197hp (+23hp from mild hybrid) & 440NM torque (+200NM) a 9G-TRONIC automatic.

Mild hybrid tech adds up some boot in performance and efficiency of the vehicle. The integrated starter motor generator in the SUV recharges the battery while deceleration. The SUV gets five driving modes: ECO, Comfort, Sports Individual, Offroad, and Individual allowing setting up the performance as per personal preference. Sadly there is no rear steering feature in the Indian market.

As per the ARAI tests mileage figures claimed around 14.73kmpl and 19.47kmpl for petrol and diesel engines respectively.

In terms of safety, the car is also equipped with 7 Airbags, Hill descent control and level 2 ADAS (Active Lane Keep Assist, Active Brake Assist, Blind Spot Assist), a 360-degree camera, and a transparent bonnet is another distinct feature which displays view under the front wheels when Off-road mode is activated. 
The HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) is integrated into the 12-inch touchscreen. Front seats are power-adjusted with heating features but miss out on ventilation and message features.

Dimension

The SUV stands at 1640mm high 4mm smaller than the previous gen but the length of the vehicle has been increased by 60mm starching up to 4716mm long, the wheelbase has also been increased by 15mm to 2888mm while the remains same i.e.,1890mm and ground clearance is 180mm.
